Course Information
Description Examination of family systems focusing on the effects of addiction and recovery
Prerequisites The objective of this course is to provide undergraduate students with an overview of addictive behaviors and give students a feel for what it is really like to work as a substance abuse counselor. Attention is given to the history, theory, conceptualization of addictive behavior, and the roles the counselor plays in the in treatment of substance abuse.
Learning Outcomes The objective of this course is to provide undergraduate students with an overview of addictive behaviors and give students a feel for what it is really like to work as a substance abuse counselor

Outside Class Assignments:
Each student will have the opportunity to participate in an outside class assignment related to an in class discussion topic. The outside class assignment will be worth 100 points.
Course Policies
Instructor Policies I will not discuss your grades over the phone or by email. If you want to discuss your grades, you must come to my office, in person.
Attendance Policy Attendance:
It is essential to attend all classes to do well in this course. Students having excessive absences (excessive tardiness, more than two, will be counted as an absence), as determined by me, will be dropped from class. Additionally, leaving early without prior approval will be counted as an absence. Class attendance and class participation will determine grade in borderline situations.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.

  2. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission.
